A Guest Bedroom That Layers Sophistication with Playful Charm

Guest Bedroom of Our Dreams
When we began reimagining this guest bedroom, the goal was clear: create a space that feels polished and grown-up, yet still warm, inviting, and full of charm. We wanted it to be the kind of room where guests would linger, where every corner held a detail worth noticing.
Starting with Color: A Clary Sage Cocoon
The design started with paint—Sherwin-Williams’ Clary Sage. Instead of treating it as just a wall color, we decided to color-drench the room: ceiling, trim, and walls, all wrapped in this soft, earthy green. The effect is cocooning, instantly making the space feel serene and cohesive, like stepping into a hidden retreat.
Building Layers Through Textiles
From there, we layered in custom textiles to bring the room to life. Tailored drapes frame the windows, adding height and softness, while custom pillows in varied patterns and textures give the bed depth and personality. The bed itself was reupholstered, transforming a familiar shape into something fresh and tactile. These details are subtle, but together they create that collected, layered look that makes a room feel finished.

A Dialogue Between Old and New
One of my favorite elements in this room is the vintage settee, which now sits directly beneath the plate wall. Its patina and character ground the space, while its placement draws the eye to the wall installation above. It’s the perfect balance between sophistication and whimsy, and it helps the room feel less like a traditional guest bedroom and more like a curated salon.
Art, Everywhere
Because this room was always meant to feel personal and soulful, we filled it with original art. Each piece brings its own mood and story, creating moments of discovery for anyone who stays here. Layering art throughout keeps the space from feeling too polished or staged—it’s lived-in and authentic, in the best way.
The Playful Centerpiece
Of course, the undeniable centerpiece is the Bordallo Pinheiro cabbageware plate wall. Installed above the vintage settee, it’s both unexpected and delightful, creating a focal point that immediately sparks conversation. The glossy greens of the plates dance against the Clary Sage backdrop, blurring the line between art and décor. It’s playful, sculptural, and just a little cheeky—which is exactly what makes it so memorable.
A Room Guests Won’t Forget
The result is a guest bedroom layered with sophistication and fun: enveloping color, thoughtful textiles, soulful art, and that showstopping plate wall. It’s a space that invites guests to settle in and explore, filled with details that unfold the longer you’re there.
Because in the end, isn’t that the best kind of room—the one that feels as good as it looks?
